Years ago in managing your money from Andrew Tobias to buyers for Mac, you could transfer between us at categories or you could transfer money to an expense category and then transferred to another expense category.
Gnu cash currently includes capability.
Here’s the use case for that. I transfer or spend money from my checking account into my wallet. From my wallet i later spend the money on food groceries gas or entertainment.
Most programs, this included, make me set my wallet up as a cash account. Then I can spend money from that cash account into expense categories. The trouble is that method leaves me with an increasing balance in the cash account which doesn’t exist because I have entered all expenses into the program or miss one. So I have to go through another reconciliation step every month or periodically, and reduce the amount shown in the cash account wallet back to what actually in my wallet. I want to skip this step.
This feature would also be conducive to envelope budgeting. Because each envelope is actually a cash account.
